Breaking: SAS Flight Blocked by Rebels – No Bailouts for Dirty Industries!
Domestic flight SK 2184 at Ängelholm–Helsingborg Airport is currently being delayed by non-violent climate activists. An activist has glued herself to the SAS plane, demanding that no taxpayers’ money be used to bail out the airline industry. The action comes as part of Extinction Rebellion Europe’s #BailoutThePlanet action wave (June 29 – July 3). Rather than dirty industries, activists say, the planet itself needs to be bailed out.

Why have we targeted SAS?
The Swedish government proposes to use up to SEK 5 billion to assist struggling airline company SAS. How are they using these funds? Millions go to executives while thousands of employees are to be fired. The government is failing both workers and the planet. The idea that we can reach the 1.5°C target of the Paris Agreement while stimulating the flight industry is absurd. But this is not a question of climate versus jobs. There is so much work to be done for a sustainable transition. Our action is not directed at airline workers or individual passengers. This is about the need to change the whole system. We must prioritise people and the planet over profit.

Den svenska regeringen föreslår att använda 5 miljader SEK för att rädda det kämpande flygbolaget SAS. Hur använder de dessa medel? Miljoner går till chefer medan tusentals anställda ska avskedas. Regeringen sviker både arbetare och planetens befolkning. Tanken att vi kan nå 1,5 ° C-målet för Parisavtalet samtidigt som vi stimulerar flygindustrin är absurd. Governments Won’t Save Us: We All Need to Become Heroes!
Activist Lan explains that it is time to realise that we are the superheroes we’ve been waiting for:
”As Greta said in her summer talk, there are no solutions to this crisis within our economic and political system. We need to stop waiting for governments and big companies to save us. They have ignored us in the past and they will do it again. In all of history, big systematic change has happened when ordinary people have risen and taken on the challenge collectively. Standing in this tradition of non-violent civil disobedience, we will keep taking radical action until the government does so. We need system change and we need it now.”

”Precis som Greta sa i sitt sommarprat, existerar inga lösningar för denna kris inom dagens ekonomiska och politiska system. Vi måste sluta vänta på att regeringar och stora företag ska rädda oss. De har ignorerat oss tidigare och de kommer att göra det igen. Hoppet ligger hos vanliga människor som insett situationens orimlighet. Under historiens gång har stora samhällsförändringar kommit från vanliga människor som valt att agera kollektivt, som t.ex. medborgarrättsrörelsen i USA. I denna tradition av icke-våld civil olydnad kommer vi att fortsätta vidta radikala åtgärder tills regeringen gör det. ”
